ADVANCED MATERIAL AND MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION CENTER

This Center is an initial $15 million State investment for the establishment of a manufacturing innovation center focused on advanced composites manufacturing technologies. The facility will contain state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment allowing companies and universities to create prototypes and associated manufacturing Intellectual Property thereby creating lots of high paying and entry level jobs within this new and growing market fueled by this transformational technology.

It was created to fill the gap between University Centers that are research and publish centric and the need to create marketplace relevant (functionality and timing) research that is carried through the gateway commercialization technology (that which all others must pass) - manufacturing technology. By having the center designed and operationally funded by lead industry users, products are created that, based upon research, are eight times more effective than other classic methods thereby accelerating job growth.

The Center, with dedicated lecture space, will also function as a K-12 field visit site to encourage youngsters on a STEM path. It will serve as a “living lab” for high school students desiring to enter the IT and manufacturing technology fields and as a source of interns to do joint company funded research. It will also be linked to our community colleges and 4 year Colleges and Universities.

The industrial team of regional prime contractors, universities and smaller firms believe that NYS can and should move ahead to capture a significant portion of this expanding market.
